What happens during this examination?

  • Injection given into the thigh muscle (infants) or upper arm (toddlers).
  • Protects against Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria causing pneumonia, meningitis, sepsis, and otitis media.
  • Basic immunization requires 3 doses (2, 4, 11 months).
  • A booster may be recommended for high-risk children.
  • Often given combined with 6-in-1 vaccination at the same visit.
